Personally I think RH tactics are totally wrong. Sami Lee the other day has credited blackpool for having “positive tactics” and stated that lfc will favour these tactics because it is the defensive minded tactics that we struggle against, however we still lost. This is because we have now become one of those teams that only has players behind the ball defending.
Why is two holding midfielders necessary?
Also this 4- 5-1 benetez style tactics only worked because we had an established cdm in mascherano and a cm in the form of xabi who was able to convert form defense to attack in one brilliant long ball for torres to run on or and through ball for gerrard.
With the current tactics of lucas or poulsen my god those waste the transition is very slow and they looked for a pass back instead of releasing the strikers.
Also the system of 4-5-1 requires full time wingers and width. Have you seen that? Sure kuyt works had but he lacks the natural width, pace and instinct of a winger.
In order to use these tactics we need some new players and switches in personnel. Like honda, hulk, bastos, de rossi, affelay forlan. players like hulk affelay honda and bastos can provide that natural width. De rossi could play as the holding mid with gerrard a little more advanced and forlan behind torres.
We must get rid of the average players who we support such as maxi, babel, lucas, poulsen, konchesky. Even if torres is not performing I say sell him and buy suarez or forlan or lopez.
With the current squad the tactics should be a 4-3-1-2. Torres and David with Joe behind and Raul Gerrard and maybe Jovanovic in centre…. More like the current Ac milan set up.
