Transfer Watch 2010

Tom Hicks, May 2010:

“We have no intention of selling any of our top players and we have a substantial transfer budget in place”.

“There’s so much misinformation about transfer spending. It’s more than doubled under the ownership of George and myself from the previous three years and we will make a significant investment this summer. It’s really about getting the right players.”

Well well well. What an illuminating day it’s been eh? Emiliano Insua is offski to Florence and it seems we’re gonna be left with Zebedee or Ermintrude at left back if we’re not careful.

But never fear, Christian Purslow is here, and his heady stand is on the tiller in the pursuit of a truly competitive squad for the coming season – one that truly builds for our future. Our Chief Exe… Managing Direc… ehm, whatever his role is supposed to be is certainly no slouch when it comes to a game of Football Manager. He’s found a bug in the game whereby if you sell or release all your left backs, you’re automatically catapulted to the Champions League places. Fantastic work.

They have plunged the club into millions of pounds of debt with nothing to show for it – the promised stadium remains the figment of an architect’s imagination while much of the debt is the money used by Hicks and Gillett to buy the club in the first place.

They promised they wouldn’t ‘do a Glazer’. Then they ‘did a Glazer’.

8th January 2008 – Hazel Blears, Government Minister announces there’s no need for an inquiry into the plans. She said: “Local planning authorities are normally best placed to make decisions relating to their areas. It is right that in general, they should be free to carry out their duties responsibly, with the minimum of interference.”

10th January 2008 – apparently Liverpool in no rush over stadium plan.
